I came across this AWESOME footage on YouTube tonight of a FIRE TORNADO in Brazil! I have seen a water spout before (water tornado) while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, but I’ve never heard of this!
A rare fire tornado has been seen in the Brazilian state of Sao Paolo. A whirlwind of flame, spiralling several metres high, danced across burning fields, bringing traffic to a halt on a nearby highway. This unusual phenomenon has been caused by a combination of wildfires and strong dry winds following weeks of drought in the country. Authorities in Brazil are struggling to contain the fires and have banned farmers from burning waste from the sugar cane harvest.
A little extra info: These can also be called a Fire Whirl. Here is a cool picture I found of a Fire Whirl striking a house.
…and of course, here is today’s vlog. Sorry, no Fire Tornados are in it, but there are some ZOMBIES!!!

Just when you thought that a Snuggie or ShamWow or SlapChop wasn’t enough, along comes this piece of crap “As Seen On TV” product:
For $14.99 or $24.99, you can get one of these eyecovers with a baby blanket attached to it. You can get either the Original Snazzy Napper or you can pay the extra $10 and get an EXTRA Large Snazzy Napper.
Seriously though, WHO BUYS THIS CRAP?
I think my favorite part of this product is the fact that my order includes Easy to Follow Instructions… WTF? It’s velco! You strap it to your head and stick your nose through the hole. Let me know if you know anyone who bought this crap so that I can punch them in the FACE!

On August 19, 2010, an article was posted on the Business Insider titled “Meet The YouTube Stars Making $100,000 Plus Per Year” (link). William Wei states some “facts” and gives some estimates as to what he thinks the “Top 10” YouTubers make with their videos.
NOTE: ‘Facts’ is in quotes because he got a lot wrong
NOTE: ‘Top 10’ is in quotes because these are not the Top 10 YouTubers
NOTE: The estimates that he gives, according to the YouTubers, are not correct
I follow many YouTubers on Twitter because: 1) I enjoy their content; 2) I want to keep up to date with all of the latest YouTube news; and 3) I am an aspiring YouTuber [Please Subscribe (LaneVid & TheFunnyrats)];
When this article came out, my twitter stream started blowing up with links to this articles, and a lot of the YouTubers mentioned in this article created videos to explain how nonfactual William Wei’s article is. I decided to write this post as a large rebuttal to that article.
Let me first start with PhillyD, which is where I first heard about this article. Philip DeFranco has a YouTube show called “The Philip DeFranco Show“. He has been a part of YouTube since September 15, 2006. From September 15, 2006 to August 23, 2010, Phil has garnished 397,879,955 video views. You can find this information my looking at his channel:
William Wei’s article claims that The Phillip DeFranco Show has 248,735,032 views for just the past year (July 2009 – 2010). I’m not too sure how this math is computed! Well looking at the article, we see that Mr. Wei used TubeMogul to get his statistics:
There are 10 independent YouTube stars who made over $100,000 in the past year, according to a study done by analytics and advertising company TubeMogul.
From July 2009 to July 2010, TubeMogul used their viewership data to estimate the annual income for independent YouTube partners, which they define as anyone who is not part of a media company or brand.
Let’s take a look there! http://tubemogul.com/marketplace
Well in checking with Mr. Wei ‘s source, something is NOT right here! Let’s start with the OBVIOUS!
1. Where did Mr. Wei get this 10 Top All Time YouTubers list from. Only TWO of the people match up between the lists.
Well, I have used Tubemogul before, and I am making an assumption that some of the profiles in Mr. Wei’s list do not upload their videos through TubeMogul, and have not set up a profile…
But then I noticed #11! Did you see it? That’s right, Annoying Orange is on there, and according to Mr. Wei, he is the second most popular YouTuber, but according to TubeMogul he is #11. This does not seem to fit together. Let’s take a look at the rest of the list:
–WTF??? Where is communitychannel? According to Mr. Wei, she is #10… wait, maybe she doesn’t use TubeMogul.
–Where are TheYoungTurks? Mr. Wei’s #9, TubeMogul’s number… Nothing!
—Smosh? Mr. Wei’s #8; Not on the TubeMogul list!
—Mediocre Films? Mr. Wei’s #7; OK… He’s on the TubeMogul list, but he’s NUMBER 29!
—Shaycarl? Mr. Wei’s #6; Not on TubeMogul! … I will give a little credit here though because the ShayTards channel, which is Shay and his family’s channel is on the list, but it’s #16, and I still can’t say that I give credit to Mr. Wei because in his article he specifically notes the Shaycarl channel, and NOT the Shaytards channel. FAIL!
—Fred? Mr. Wei’s #5; TubeMogul’s #3… FINALLY, Someone on the Top 10 at least, although not in order.
—Ryan Higa? Mr. Wei’s #4; Not on the TubeMogul list. Now I would like to take a second to state that Ryan should be #1 on both lists because he is the most Subscribed to YouTuber of ALL TIME. I’ll show you that stat in just a second, let’s finish this “list”.
—Philip Defranco? Wei’s #3; TubeMogul’s #6 … At least he’s on both lists!
—The Annoying Orange? Wei’s #2; TubeMogul’s #11 (as stated earlier).
—Shane Dawson? Wei’s #1; TubeMogul’s #… well he’s not on the list, but he should be. Probably doesn’t use TubeMogul.
So far we have determined that Mr. Wei’s list does not comply with his source’s list, and I find it interesting that @buckhollywood asked (via twitter) “@shanedawson do you even use TubeMogul? It’s an odd list with odd dollar amounts LOL ;-)”
So, I figured that you might be interested in the Top 10 YouTubers from another source. Here is what I found on VidStatsX.com (which is a site that most YouTubers looks at to judge their ranking and stats):
This list contains: 1. Nigahiga (Ryan Higa); 2. Fred; 3. ShaneDawsonTV; 4. RayWilliamJohnson; 5. Smosh; 6. Machinima; 7. ShaneDawsontv2; 8. MysteryGuitarMan; 9. sXephil (The Philip Defranco Show); 10. DaveDays
Still a lot of misjudgement on the Top 10 here compared to Mr. Wei and TubeMogul’s list. I’m starting to get confused as to who the Top 10 really is. Maybe I should make a list:
6)… you get the point!
So now, BACK TO Philip Defranco’s videos views that we were discussing above!
According to Mr. Wei: 248,735,032 from July 2009 – July 2010;
According to sXePhil’s Channel: 397,879,955 – All Time.
Before we go any further, let’s take a look at Phil’s video views for the past 30 days according to TubeMogul and let’s times that by 12 (12 months in a year). This would probably be the most accurate display of data unless we were to actually go to Phil’s channel and add up his views for the past year.
Where Near 248,735,032!
I decided that I wanted to be as accurate as possible, so I added up all of Phil’s views from July 1, 2009 – July 1, 2010 and that equaled 191,542,906. I would like to keep in mind that this number should be LOWER because I am counting these views 4 days later, but not by very much.
(Phil if you would like to give us an accurate count, you would be most privy to that data in your insights, but I don’t expect anything).
Here is a video Phil uploaded talking about this article:
Phil is not the only YouTuber that Mr Wei got a wrong view count number. Watch this video where Greg from Mediocre Films talks about this article:
This is in addition to the fact that their CPM estimates are actually totally wrong. Although it’s kind of fun to be on a list I don’t belong on, it’s more important to me that people get their facts straight before spewing garbage to the public.
As far as going into more detail about my YouTube income, besides it being my own business, naming actual specific figures is against the partner agreement all YouTube Partners have signed with Google.
I got the idea to write this post due to the fact that people were STILL talking about it days later after the article was published. Hopefully I did my fellow YouTubers some justice!
I’m sure that I could go on and on with the other YouTubers in question, but I would prefer to get to some tweets.
@shanedawson tweeted “the yahoo article is wrong. if it was true raywj would be there and many others lol”
@Daneboe replied “@shanedawson I have to say, I’m not too happy about that Yahoo article. It’s wrong. Plus, that’s info I don’t want to share with EVERYONE.”
@petercoffin replied “@daneboe @shanedawson I think that exists for one of two resons: 1. to piss you folks off into revealing what you actually make publicly.” … “@daneboe @shanedawson To paint YouTube as a smaller-time operation than it really is. Because I know what I make CPM and I know you guys'” … “@daneboe @shanedawson Numbers. Whatever that article’s purpose, it’s an insult to YouTube.”
@buckhollywood replied “@petercoffin agree on a few of your points ;-)”.
I, @Lanevids, chimed in “@petercoffin @daneboe @shanedawson Just think of that article as a Troll… and do what we all do with trolls… ignore them!”
@petercoffin responded “@buckhollywood Am I wrong? They’re trying to goat a negative response out. @Lanevids put it right, it’s straight trolling.”
@buckhollywood agreed “@Lanevids @petercoffin agree :-)’
I said that we should ignore them, since they are strictly trolling, but when an article is put onto the front page of Yahoo that isn’t even factual, I feel that someone needs to point it out on a larger scale then sporadic tweets on twitter. So I decided to gather some accurate information and share this with everyone to put this issue to rest because if the view count are not right in the first place, then you will have skewed amounts when you use Mr. Wei’s formula, which judging from the tweets above, that doesn’t seem to be too accurate either.
PS. I wonder how much William Wei earns per year? Maybe we should ask him!

The creators of The Last Exorcism have created one of THE BEST online marketing campaigns EVER with Chatroulette. Some users were a little surprised and/or shocked when they visited the site recently:
If you enjoyed this, Like this post and ReTweet it! Thanks!
Let me explain what the website Chatroulette is, in case you don’t know. Chatroulette is a site where you can meet people and chat with them one-on-one. I have heard that this has become and place for webcam girls and crap like that.
This site is interesting because the site decides on who you’re going to see next, and not the user.
