Waskom

While we travel with our kids, we use every opportunity as a learning experience. This is another "Travel With Kids Pro Tip":

When you get to a new state, take time to stop at the Welcome Centers or Travel Centers and let the kids explore. When we got to Texas we stopped at the Welcome Center on I-20 and there was a huge statue of Texas so we talked about:

  • how big Texas is

  • what’s the capital of Texas

  • where is the capital is located since it was labeled on the statue

This is basically a real life geography lesson that they got to experience. We just took the time to teach them, and you should too!

Also Welcome Centers are a great place to stop on road trips to take a break from driving. Remember your kids need:

  • to stretch their legs

  • to burn some energy

  • eat a snack or lunch

  • use the bathroom

  • explore and learn ...

and YOU do too!

Enjoy the time with your kids! It's not all about the destination, it's about the memories that you are creating!

Mt pleasant

Are your kids adventurous eaters? We always get our kids to try new foods... how do we do that? Here's what we do:

  • 💙 When there is a new food that is offered or put in front of them, we tell them that they have to at least try it once, and if they do not like it, they never have to try it again

  • ❤️ If they DO like it, you praise them for trying something new and tell them "See, if you never would have tried it, then you never would have known that you would it!"

  • 💛 If they DO NOT like it, they do not have to try it again unless they want to. We ALSO explain to them that your tastes change over time so they might like it in the future. This keeps their minds open to trying it again later in life.

🍜 Do you like thai food? I like thai food, in particular Pad Thai. We found this small local north Texas thai restaurant and we take you inside in our latest video. PS: Kids eating noodles can be HILARIOUS!

Daingerfield, Texas

daingerfield state park

In this part of our Family Road Trip Travel Series we stop at Daingerfield State Park in Daingerfield, TX. This is a beautiful state park with a huge lake that you can go swimming in and it also has a huge platform in the middle of the lake to jump from and do flip off of.

There are also hiking trails that go around the lake and a nice visitors center if you forgot or need something.

I have 5 Must Know Parenting Secrets for you today to survive a road trip with kids. They are:

  • on your trip, find a body of water that you can go swimming in. It’ll refresh you for the rest of your trip.

  • Popsicles turn around a bad day on a dime! Look for inexpensive ones at a state park’s visitors center. They are usually only $1 each.

  • When taking your kids on a hike, make it fun for them. Pick up a stick and act like they have to shoot monsters in the woods. Pick up pinecones and use them as bombs on the monsters.

  • When you get to your hotel (or anywhere) ask for a discount. They might just tell you no, but at least you asked and tried.

  • Teach your kids to be grateful for everything that they have and get to experience.
