2 Days in Las Cruces, New Mexico with Kids

How We Spent 2 Days in Las Cruces, New Mexico

The Travel Vlog Family

Day 1

Hey, travelers, we made it to Las Cruces, New Mexico. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites for a little pit stop as we continue the rest of our road trip because we're headed to Tucson. We're going downtown to find something to eat and hopefully get some dessert. I don't know if we'll get it at the restaurant or somewhere else. We might find a park or something for the kids to burn some energy since they've been in the car all day. Let's go.

Dinner & The Park

The restaurant is called Si Senor. We figured that we would get some Mexican food since we were in New Mexico. It was delicious, and for dessert, we got a churro tower with four donuts, chocolate, and caramel. Do you remember the three Fs? Fast, Filling, and Friendly. This place met the three Fs, although dinner was a little more than expected—$ 77.13. If we keep eating like this, there's no way we're going to be able to stay under budget. Follow along to see how much it's going to be.

We're going to go to the park. We found a park called Unidad Park on Google Maps, so we decided to come and check it out. It's got a giant wooden playground structure here, and it looks amazing. We're going to let the kids run around and burn some energy.

Day 2

Breakfast

Good morning, guys. We're going to eat some breakfast at the Holiday Inn. They have a grab-and-go type of thing. From what I understand, it is a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich, so we're going to go and check it out. All in all, this was a great hotel stay. The people down at the front desk are very friendly, and we had a great night here.

Now, we'll explore Las Cruces, New Mexico, a little bit more. There are a couple of things we want to do here before we head out to Tucson and go to our next National Park.

Pro tip: Bring an empty duffel bag to put all your dirty laundry in when you're traveling. That way, you know exactly where your dirty laundry is, and you can easily do it while you travel. Let's pack up this van. I want to show you one thing, and then we'll continue to Tucson, Arizona.

World's Largest Chili Pepper

Las Cruces, New Mexico, is home to the world's largest chili pepper. You can't go in it, but you can touch it. It's 47 ft. long and located at the Big Chile Inn, which used to be called something else. Somebody renamed the hotel when they bought it, and now they have a big, giant chili pepper sitting on a rock. I cannot believe how big this thing is. I don't even know if we can get the whole thing in a picture.

We witnessed a car crash while leaving the Big Chile Inn. It was a T bone. My wife stopped and brought a first aid kit to the car driver that got hit. We called 911, and everyone seemed okay. The man seemed a little disoriented. I'm glad that I saw that because the guy got a cut on his arm. We're going to wait for the ambulances to come. The police and firetruck just showed up. All I saw was the impact. I didn't see the actual movement of the cars.

Continental Divide

Next, we're stopping at the Continental Divide. It's a roadside attraction with a tepee, and the whole thing is a unique place that you can come and check out. We had to use the bathroom and wanted to eat some lunch, and we decided to stop at a pretty neat place. They have all kinds of stuff here. They even have a whole firework section. We got some stickers for our car, and the kids got souvenirs.

Since we stopped at the world's largest chili today, I thought a chili capital of the world sticker was fitting. All the souvenirs came out to $51.28. While we were at the tepee in Texas, we picked up some of their stickers, so we'll also put those up. We have the Terlingua drinking team sticker, which is extra funny because we don't really drink.

Next, we'll go check out the teepee. You can't go inside; there's nothing in there. It's time to eat some lunch. We're going to find some jerky.

We made it to Tucson, Arizona. If you want to see what our Airbnb looks like and see everything we're going to do in Tucson, click this link to continue the journey with us. Keep traveling.
