Are you looking for a great place to stay in Las Cruces, New Mexico? We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites. I'll take you through the lobby and show you our room. This hotel has good lobby carts, which I really like. The other place we stayed didn't have good carts. They have a business area with Windows and Mac computers and a breakfast area open from 7:00-9:00 each morning.
The hotel has an indoor pool and laundry facilities; it costs $1.50 to use the wash and $1.75 for the dryer. We're on the second floor, so it's easy to take the stairs. There's a nice view out the window.
The Bathroom
We are in room 218. There is a bathroom on the left and a full-length mirror on the right when you walk in. The bathroom sink has nice Delta faucets with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. There is a tissue box filled with the Angel Soft brand. In the shower are JR Watkins products, including shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. My wife said the bath products here are great. The shower has a big, round head with three different settings and great pressure. There is also a full bathtub, and the shower has a hookless curtain with a bendy rod that adds a little bit of extra room.
There are two lamps on each side of the mirror, although it's not the whitest light here. If you're a woman, you might be having some trouble doing your makeup. It might look different because of the orange glow. Under the sink are some toilet paper and a bath mat here with suckers on the bottom. There are also plenty of towels and a little hairdryer down here. The toilet is a Bemis toilet, and there's a small trash can next to it.
Kitchenette
The kitchenette is small, but there is some storage if you need space to put things. There is a microwave, although I think they could have put a bigger one in this space. It's quite small. The sink is deep; the last hotel we stayed in in Carlsbad was half this size. This one has room to do some dishes, although there are no plates in the room. There is a Keurig machine for those interested in coffee or tea and more storage space underneath it.
Work & Living Space
The room has a small office area with a table, phone, lamp, and two plugs. The chair is a very comfortable rolling chair with a big seat. It reclines and has a nice bounce to it. Across the room are the sofa and another lamp. The sofa turns out into a bed that takes up the entire room when opened, making for a smaller walking path. As far as space is concerned, the area between the closet and the kitchenette is tight. I brought up the luggage cart, and it barely fit through.
Beds
The beds have Serta Emerald PS mattresses, which were really comfortable. Each bed also has a pillow topper for some extra cushion. I slept great last night, and the pillows were comfortable as well. I usually travel with my pillow, but these pillows did the job. I like to chop my pillows on top and lay my head into the crease to hide some of the light. It worked well.
Between the beds is a double lamp with two switches so that you can turn it off on either side. There is an MP3-ready alarm clock with a night light option, and it also doubles as a radio. Underneath is more storage space.
Heating & AC
The room has an Amana AC unit that works well, especially on these hot New Mexico days. You can easily change the temperature with an Amana controller. There are different modes, including constant fan and fan speed.
Other Amenities
There are ethernet ports if you need to connect to the internet. There is also an LG TV with access to different channels. They give you to give you an ice bucket, a small tray, and a mini-fridge. It's a good size and super cold. We have some ice packs that we're bringing with us for our ice chest, and they stay super cool as long as you freeze them every day. My wife put three of them in the fridge, and they all stayed frozen.
There's a little safe, although we didn't use it. There are more drawers if you stay for a long time and want to store your clothes. There is a suitcase rack, a coffee table, and a chair right with a lamp next to it if you want to read or look out the window. There are diffused and blackout curtains in front of the windows, so it gets pretty dark, but when the curtains are closed, some light peaks through the top and the bottom.
