How much is it to get into Malaquite Beach?
A Malaquite Beach day pass is only $10 per vehicle. If you’re looking to stay longer than a day, a weekly pass costs $25. We have a 4th grader in your family, and you have the Every Kids in a Park Pass (which is free), you can get into any national park for free with your 4th grader! That is what we did, so we got to save $10. So whether you’re looking to spend a day or a year at Malaquite Beach, there’s an option for you!
Can you swim at Malaquite Beach?
Yes, you can swim at Malaquite Beach. The beach is located within the boundaries of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, a unit of the National Park Service. The water is generally clean and clear, with a moderate surf and good waves for body surfing. There are no lifeguards on duty, so visitors should use caution when swimming.
According to someone on TripAdvisor, “The water is also the perfect swimming temperature. I know. Because I can only swim in waters about 86F. The water is probably 88F when we were there.”
Can you drive on Malaquite Beach?
Yes, you can drive on Malaquite Beach! However, there are a few things to keep in mind before doing so. First and foremost, pay attention to the tide chart and only drive on the beach during low tide. Secondly, be sure to avoid any bird or turtle nesting sites - they're clearly marked. Finally, please remember to pack out all of your trash when you leave.
Driving on the beach is a great way to experience all that Malaquite has to offer. So long as you take the proper precautions, you're sure to have a fun and safe time! that being said, we ended up just parking at the Visitor’s Center and walking down this pathway to the beach.
Is Malaquite Beach open?
Beach access is open 24 hours a day; 365 days a year. The visitor’s center is open from 9am - 5pm daily.
The beach is open year-round, but the best time to visit is from mid-April through mid-October when the water is warmest. The beach has been closed in the past due to high levels of bacteria in the water, but it is currently open and safe to swim in when we were there.
