How to Get Rid of Toilet Stains

If you're struggling to find a way to remove stubborn toilet stains, look no further. Today, I will share with you the efficient method I discovered that finally solved my problem. Living down here in Louisiana, we regularly deal with hard water that causes calcium buildup on toilets. But in less than 10 bucks and with some safety precautions, you can get rid of those unsightly stains.

What You Need

* Muriatic Acid

* Safety goggles

* A mask

* Rubber Gloves

* A Bucket

All of the safety equipment including the muriatic acid can be conveniently found on Amazon.

The Procedure

The first step is to turn off the water supply to your toilet. Part of this process requires you to simulate a flush using a bucket of water. Simply fill your bucket with water and pour it quickly into the toilet. This creates enough pressure to flush the toilet without refilling the tank as we've already turned off the water supply.

Next, you'll need to mix your muriatic acid with water. I recommend using five parts water for one part muriatic acid. Always remember to add the acid last to avoid any splashing. Once ready, pour the dilution slowly into the bowl, making sure it doesn't splash back on you or cause the toilet to flush.

Let it Sit

Allow the acid solution to sit in the toilet for about two hours. This gives it enough time to break down the calcium deposits. During this time, it's also recommended to periodically scrub around the bowl with a toilet brush to ensure the acid solution is reaching the stains.

Don't Forget The Tank

While the acid solution is doing its work in the bowl, don't forget about the build-up that may be hiding under the rim or in the top of the tank. To clean this area, pour the acid solution down the water fill pipe in your tank which will then send the solution down to the weeping holes helping to clear out any hidden build-up.

Remember to always keep your safety equipment on as you're working with a strong acid. It's also advisable to ventilate the room and prevent any people or pets from entering the bathroom during this time.

Final Steps

After the two hours, give your toilet a good scrub and flush a couple of times to get rid of the solution. It's always important to neutralize the acid after using it so consider flushing your toilet with a baking soda and water solution.

I hope that this blog post has provided some useful information on how to get rid of toilet stains. But remember, always handle muriatic acid carefully and with the recommended safety equipment.

In the next post, I'll share the results of this cleaning method and discuss how you can neutralize the acid safely. For now, happy cleaning!
